Community First: Thesis Declaration Drawings

My MArch Thesis sought to investigate Estate Regeneration, focussing around the quality of life of the residents and the community they form. Often regeneration attempts to solve problems of social deprivation by wholescale demolition and rebuilding, but this can destroy the community that has built up on site over years.

These drawings attempt to engage with the problem of estate regeneration from the city scale down to individual dwelling units. Using 3 estates that had undergone regeneration as case studies I attempted to map both the changing urban form of estates as well as the network of social spaces that supported the estate community before and after regeneration.

This series of investigations through drawing helped me clarify my thinking and then move towards proposing an alternative model of estate regeneration.
