Objective - Design a set of aero bars and a bike saddle for the high-end cycling market. The design should incorporate innovation in the areas of performance, material, style, and emotion.
Curvilinear Streamlining of Aero Bars - Aero bars today are composed of rounded tubes fused together, not embracing aerodynamics or streamlining. The goal of the Vukatana form is to create a bar that is both organic enough for comfort, and streamlined enough to decrease drag.
Functional Material Change of Saddle - Some of today’s bicycle seats offer padding for comfort, and carbon fiber for weight, but none offers both. By integrating different materials and different technologies a saddle can be both light weight and comfortable enough for long rides.
Integrated Components - By embedding components like the bike computer into the hollow frame, consumers are able to have a higher level of quality for all components.
New Post Connection - Rather than having exposed brackets and screws this new mounting system allows for a seamless connection between post and seat while still offering adjustability.
It Should Make Me Feel Like I Am One With The Bike - Because the contact points on the aero bars are set into the frame, there is an opportunity for the entire bar to cradle the arm allowing for maximum surface contact.
Subtle, But Bold - Rather than plastering the final designs with graphics, the surface of both products are mostly black. Small yellow accents highlight the inner faces of the forms. This separates the dark outer body from the inner walls, celebrating the detail of the form.
Improved Performance - Along with aesthetics and color both products share similar technologies that allow the rider to perform better, including light weight airbags and component integration.
Saddle Airbag Technology - The airbag makes adjustable cushioning and light weight support possible. Airbags are made when a piece of fabric textile is sandwiched between two pieces of TPU film, which is then injected with air, creating a pressurized cushioning system.
Aero Bar Computer Integration - The bike computer feature is made possible by a matrix of laser etched perforations cut into the carbon fiber frame, this allows a LED screen to shine through the surface relaying information in a seamless appearance.
Design for Performance - The Vukatana product line offers many benefits to the rider. It showcases innovation in aerodynamic performance, light weight materials, integrated style, and emotional unification.
