Source Material

in this series of installations i am bypassing the economics of ceramics and going straight to the source of where clay is formed by the natural process of erosion. some, or all, of the rocks, minerals and clays are removed from a specific location, taken home, fired and then returned to where they where harvested from. the work is discussion of commerce and ownership. as an artist i try to convince myself i am not a part of the economic conundrum, but am i. this work involves no purchase of material, it involves no gallery, no buyer, i claim no right to the work and expect no reward, and though it can be retrieved by anybody who wishes, the work retains no transferable value and it's actually illegal to permanently remove material from Hawaii State Land.
