Tulip Ceiling Fan

The Tulip was a concept design for Emerson Electric. It was my solution for the challenge from the focus groups "I wish that ceiling fans could disappear when we did not need them". While ceiling fans are very effective in cooling spaces during warm and hot times of year it can be a useless eye sore the rest of the year. The Tulip´s transformation from chandelier to fan is based on aviation air foil technology and worked well during testing. It uses no pulley or mechanized parts to pull up the fan blades but rather use the centrifugal force generated by the motor to raise the fan blades into position when needed and gently lowers them back to chandelier position when not in use.
