The Library is located in a central residential district in Sofia.

The oval futuristic shape is a recognizable symbol of the district, attractive and provocative for the young, enhancing their curiosity and passion for the knowledge.

An atrium throughout the levels acts like a barrier, separating the reading zone from the south sunshine and the noise of the main traffic lane passing south of the building. The double-skin glassed façade with incorporated shading elements and equipped with computer controlled openings for ventilation lets the natural light in and allows the natural air ventilation, all resulting in low energy consummation. The construction with large spans offers more flexibility for the functional layout and also allows future modifications. Instead of ordinary internal partition walls, bookshelves are used for the separation of the reading zones, which is also an allusion to the notion that the book is a brick of knowledge.
