Bound

This piece draws on the idea of being wrapped in something comforting but restrictive, as a therapeutic device. Wrapping a limb in bandages provides support and comfort after injury. As well as being protective and curative, the bandage acts as a marker, outwardly displaying the fact that someone is undergoing a process of healing and recovery.

The bandages on this jar burnt out during firing, leaving a fragile residue of the gauze texture.

Commissioned by the UK Crafts Council (2008).
