IBM T-565 Adjustable Flat Screen Monitor, 2001 - Role: Team Member

The goal was to streamline the form of a flat screen monitor which had lift, tilt, and swivel adjustments. An additional goal was to reduce overseas shipping costs by decreasing the package size.

I worked with the design team to conceptualize and help model the new architecture needed for the product. Richard Sapper led the design after the optimal form had been selected, creating the final design.

Internet Appliance - Role: Co-Lead Designer (with Julie Tierney)

The challenge was to create a small all-in-one PC for home users who did not already have a PC. This was targeted at IBM service subscribers who sporadically needed internet access.

I developed the form to blend into a home environment, creating a less obtrusive device when not in use. Richard Sapper approved the unique form and it's development.

IBM / Altec Lansing Speakers - The project was to re-brand several sets of OEM desktop speakers with the IBM design language. The challenge was to create an elegant solution with an existing product and acoustical volume requirements. The proportions of this set made it my favorite.
Slide on Speakers - Awarded Design Patent and IF Award
IBM Enterprise Desktop - This is an enterprise PC designed for easy repair. If a user has problems, a technician visits, swap the drive or chassis with new parts, and leaves the user with a working machine and little wasted time. Internal component layout was a big part of the design, because it influences the proportions. The exterior had to blend with the product family and the challenge was deciding how to apply common elements for a dignified look. Ease of use was an important requirements and challenge.
Innovative Stand inspired by the Ariante Fan - The base needed high ventilation and this treatment was both moldable and picked up the IBM bar motif. It was a prelude to current IBM design language vent treatment, picked up as element of product line
IBM Flat Panel Speakers - Role: Team Member with Julie Tierney

The challenge was to create a set of flat panel speakers using IBM design language.
There was a requirement for a very open enclosure on the rear side of the sound panel.

I assisted Julie with conceptualizing how the IBM design language could be used with such an open enclosure. The open rib design flowing over the form was inspired by an open pattern PC stand I had previously done and had suggested for the solution. Julie carried out the detailed design.
IBM "Fan-Fold" Series CRT Monitors, 2000-01 - Role: Team Member and Lead Designer

This was part of the IBM brand design language update. I was part of the team during the evolution of the rib texture to the fan-fold, which maintained the symbolic ties to the IBM 8 bar logo.

I worked as lead designer to re-brand several OEM monitors with the new IBM design language. Each model was a challenge due to applying the design language to the the differently proportioned monitor parts.

Thinkpad Ultra Drive Bay - Role: Lead Designer

IBM wanted to re-brand an OEM drive bay to add functionality and fit into their innovative product family.

I created a product design with the new look and feel, drawing from desktop and mobile products. The new design was smaller, had improved eject functions, and could be used horizontally and vertically.
Folding Keyboard - Concept development for folding keyboard that would be much smaller than anything on the market at the time.
Folding Keyboard - Preliminary realistic design with much smaller footprint than Palm Keyboard. Awarded utility patent.
