Absolutely Sara - I use yellow (almost white) urethane foam, no prime, 10lbs min. That way the colours really pop and it gives you a great effect. I also like to add hard finished details in many cases. If you want to fill the cell structure after machining or hand carving, it is best to use a higher density modeling board - then priming becomes more efficient.

This is truly remarkable work! I have some questions for you: when you painted the first two models, did you just paint the foam without priming it first to fill the holes? Also what kind of foam do you mostly use, high density polyurethane foam? Thanks! :)
