SEEDLING

The topical seed of my collection is character. During a women's jewelry project in Equatorial Guinea, I was asked a favor; come see the man's collection of sticks. He waved me down and persisted I see the many characterized sticks he had collected, inspired beyond their everyday function for the villagers. He let them journey through his imagination. In this collection, I started with an atmospheric color palette and contoured silhouettes, allowing each look to breathe on its own. I borrowed younger memories of my grandmother's Amish quilting groups and randomized geometries through individual shibori dye wraps, pottery crocheting, technological treatments, fabric manipulations, and the patterning of remnants. My focus is not technology or handcraft, but a biological journey of experiences through treatments that combine both to prototype personalities.
