Caterpods - A toy which encourages children to eat vegetables grown by themselves. Caterpods uses hydroponic technology to teach children the specific requirements of plants, as well as a sense of responsibility. Plants grow much larger and faster than in soil, and with no risk of disease. Best in Show '09 Northern School of Design (BSc.) Product Design Exhibited at New Designers London '09
Educational Toy - Clear concave windows in the side of each pod allows children to see the roots growing downwards through water and bubbles! And as they grow out of the caterpillar theme, the body can be removed, the wheels unclipped and the pods become quirky teenage vases! So in a way the product grows up with the child. Best in Show '09 Northern School of Design (BSc.) Product Design Hand-sculpted foam model
Supportive material - Best in Show '09 Northern School of Design (BSc.) Product Design Collection of research, sketchwork and additional information
Sketches - Some rough sketches from the development stage.
Testing - The plants after 4 weeks. Already, they were almost double the size of the soil-grown ones.
