Artist Statement
Freak Show - This poster is one that I created almost entirely with images that I took and altered myself. The only images not from my own work is the elastic woman and the BMW, however I did alter them from the original. I enjoyed setting up photo shoots with my friends, and making them unrecognizable to most that know them. This poster also gave me the opportunity to set type on fire, play with lighting, and photoshopping images in realistic ways that aren't apparent to the viewer.
Demolition Derby - With this image I was able to play with typography; crashing and breaking letters. I was able to give a sense of action to the photo with blurs and use of angles. The bright colors grab attention and also stick to the color pallet of the "Fun" section of Chimera Carnival.
Cotton Candy Poster - At Chimera Carnival, we take everything a step further. You don't just get cotton candy, you get cotton candy is custom shapes that you decide! For this poster I took my own photos and created the rest in photoshop through the use of brushes and vector shapes. Playing with type was unique in this poster because it needed to fit that "unreal" aspect of the carnival.
Chimera Carnival Map - The outside of the map has the logo on the front, with the three sides displaying the branches of the carnival and the color pallet that goes along with them, "Freaks, Fun, and Family." The map is folded using a "Turkish Map Fold". This fold isn't one I was familiar with, but felt its ease of use and unique shape set it apart from any other map folds I have seen. This map is simple, easy, resembles a tent, and folds up to a convenient pocket size.
Map - Inside - Chimera Carnival has maps for each location they visit. This is an example of what you could expect to see. The map uses three color pallets to differentiate between the Freaks, Fun, and Family branches. Different shapes are used to differentiate between attractions, rides, and food; this makes it easier for the consumer to determine what the icon represents and the branch of the carnival it falls under.
Chimera Carnival Map Folded - This is the Map folded up, standing on its own.
Greetings Card-Curtains. - This is the card that is tucked away inside of the map when it is received in the mail through the membership package. The red swirls act and resemble curtains when folded and first seen by the consumer. When opened it reveals a greeting from Chimera Carnival and coupons for free food! This piece is temporary and removed from the map by the user.
Greetings Card- Coupons - This is the card that is tucked away inside of the map when it is received in the mail through the membership package. Once the curtains are drawn coupons are revealed along with a thank you message from Chimera Carnival. The card is taken out of the map and the coupons can be clipped by the consumer.
Business Letterhead - Chimera Carnival is all about going green and conserving. That is why we don't use envelopes! This letter uses the same Turkish Map Fold as the map does, but this letter is a bit smaller. The outside acts as an envelope and is sealed with a sticker at the bottom to keep the letter shut during transit.
Business Card - This is the business card for Chimera Carnival. The back displays the logo, the from shows the employees name and their position along with all the necessary contact information.
Entrance Tickets - These are the tickets used to get into the carnival. The darker purple is for adults and the light blue is for children. These tickets use colors seen in all branches of Chimera Carnival.
Carnival Signage - These are signs used throughout the park to help guest find their way. Signs are color coded to help differentiate between Freak, Fun, or Family attractions. The shape on the end of the sign helps to differentiate between shows/attractions, rides, or food.
