2012: "ONE" A Korean Cultural Center for the Human Rights of North Koreans (Senior Thesis)

"Independent Study" featuring one semester of research and programming, and one semester of design.

Students were required to pick a topic of choice whether socially relevant or not, and do research as well as design a facility that will cater to the needs of the primary user group.

ONE is a Korean Cultural Center for the Human Rights of North Koreans, which strives to LINK heritage and identity through cultural understanding.

Conceptually the space was driven through an abstract idea, formerly known as the "coexistence of separation and convergence," which through the design process essentially became more about degrees of separation, whether physical or acoustical; public and private, whereby these degrees of separation were played with structurally and on an operational level.

Private spaces were not designed to their fullest extent due to the unique qualities and very special needs of the primary user.
