Hey there! My name is Angelica V. Newby and I am an abstract ink artist, illustrator, and textile artist. I carry a Graphic Design degree from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale class of 2007. I am currently showcasing my designs at art shows and fairs around California. My Surface Pattern designs are open for licensing as well as commissioned illustration.
Angelica Newby (aka Maiz) is an Alumnus of the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale's class of 2007. For the past 2 years I have decided to showcase my extensive library of abstract imagery and designs. These pieces are drawn using fine point ink pens or painted. They are then reflected, mirrored and flipped to make another image, sometimes several.
They are themed around the idea of intentional and sporadic flow of lines. Some viewers have even mentioned that they see it as a type of modern Rorschach test. It is up to the viewer's own perception to ‘See what they want to see’ in these images. Taking the time to pour over a design or even a momentary glance can yield a new perspective to the viewer. You will see new images moments, weeks or even years later. Drawing these designs are a form of art therapy for me and for others the same, or a completely different mental and therapeutic experience.
“I am the type of person that is always looking to further my goals by pushing, visual and physical boundaries of my art. I decided to pick up some spray paint and acrylic and make a bold move…to expand my work into the gorgeous world of color. My ultimate goal is to work as a freelance pattern designer, license mr artwork for major motion pictures, high fashion clothing line as well as street wear. I have a few shops that sell my designs on fabric, upholstery and home décor. I want to take viewers of my work on a journey of the heart and mind thru various applications of my designs.”
