The J.M. Burnham building is located within the industrial historic Fifth Ward at the terminus of the Milwaukee River. The southeast facades are embedded within an up and coming neighborhood. These historic façades embrace the iron columns, and delicate arches that create a patterned mask for the structure.
This patterned theme continues around the building to the west and becomes the main theme of the new interior. Throughout the program a series or screens and scrims create this “””’masked” theme that is removed the further north one moves through the space. By doing so, the grand north view is revealed. ”In order to take advantage of this site, the interior eating, seasonal eating, and outdoor eating areas are all positioned around the view.
