In addition to the ubiquitous OtterBox cases for smartphones, OtterBox created a custom protective case for Motorola’s S11 bluetooth headphones. Initial concepts spanned the packaging spectrum: paper, plastic, box, wrap, tag, etc. After initial concepts were presented, the chosen concept to move forward with was a form fitted wrap design. After collaborating with packaging engineers the finished wrap included two interlocking “arms” that wrapped around the product and secured it into place, all hidden underneath the printed customer facing content. The finished piece utilized clear PET to show off the product as well as simple graphics and messaging to inform the customer about their purchasing decision.

Three designs were chosen to move forward and have samples created in both paper and plastic. The plastic wrap was the chosen concept because most of the package could be kept clear allowing the product to show through. A product image was printed on the package to immediately show the customer what version of headphones the OtterBox case was for.

The final design was very simple to assemble and disassemble, while still keeping the product secure on peg.
