Living in a Smart City

When a city can gather data on every aspect
of it’s citizens activities, what should we do
with it? What products, services and environments
should we develop? This class is
taught by George Aye and with IBM’s Director
of Citizenship of Technology, John Tolva.
it’s built on the model of small, problemcentric
multi-disciplinary teams of students
from Architecture, Interior Architecture and
Designed Objects at graduate and undergraduate
levels.
The class revolved around two intersecting
projects--the first of which studied how
we could minimize the negative effects of a
traffic incident at one of Chicago’s 6-Point
Intersections. The second looked at how
we could maximize the positive effects of a
large-scale event, like the Chicago Marathon, moving through a city.
