Multi-Story/Multi-Purpose Design- Fall 2013

The Canal Building is an abandoned warehouse in the Susan B. Anthony District in Rochester, New York. The challenge for this project was to design the interior for multiple businesses and residences without comprising the character of the building. The wood used throughout the building will be reclaimed timber or flooring, much of it salvaged from the actual building. Operable windows with proper glazing and solar shades will be implemented. The color palette for the apartments will remain neutral with warm shades of honey and brown from the reclaimed timber accents. Historical photos and artifacts will be incorporated into the public space and allow for a soothing blend of the past and present.
