PROGRAM: The program called for a new 8,000 sf theater and cinema in downtown Raleigh, NC at the corner of Hargett Street and Wilmington Street.
CONCEPT: the rough concrete shell of the building is sliced away to reveal the interior activity and spotlight the communal nature of the program. The circulation through the building heightens the ceremony of attendance.

Circulation in wall - The cover over the circulation in the model is held on with 4 small magnets.
The model comes apart to show the circulation in the thick wall of the 'geode'.
On the interior side of this wall are flat landings that float in and above the lobby space and take the occupants to the next entry in the wall.
GEODE: Black box theater, cinema, cafe and conference room, as well as support spaces. Model shows Illumination of theater space at night with the glow lighting up the cafe below and the entrance to the theater above.
