Kristin Hawk

This is strictly a portfolio of my work from graduate school. In these projects the overarching idea that ties them, and other independent projects, together is the value I place on fostering human connection around a shared space and activity, especially the ways private space can include and extend the contextual public space. In these designs a new common ground is created which supports the life of the architecture, the community and the people who participate.

During the summer of 2007 I worked with a group of architectural students designing and building a house for a Biloxi, MS resident who lost her house to Hurricane Katrina. It has achieved LEED certification and won an AIA award in Mississippi. After graduation I spent May - July 2009 traveling to Spain, Italy and Turkey on the Kohn Pedersen Fox Traveling Fellowship. From 2009-2012 I worked at KlingStubbins and KPF.

In 2012 I moved to the Caribbean to document the final year of a pioneer Eco-resort, a place where I had originally been inspired by the climate and sustainable design and decided to pursue my architecture degree. I designed a website/blog recording the typical experiences and physical structures for posterity. In 2014 I returned to traditional architecture practice, my interest is on working on sustainable residential and commercial designs.
