Rubbermaid Toolbox

This 24" toolbox was one of three developed for Rubbermaid's larger ActionPacker product line.

Originally intended to be a simple toolbox upgrade utilizing existing handles, latches and bases from a previous generation of toolboxes, the newly dubbed "global toolbox" program grew in scope but diminished in focus, resulting in numerous quality issues in the final product.

Embarrassingly enough, this development effort was partially (and incorrectly) documented on PBS' Frontline television program.

As my first Rubbermaid - first corporate - project, this was an extraordinary learning experience, even though my involvement was mostly limited to assisting the lead industrial designer and design manager by providing concept sketches. However, while my primary contribution was the more faceted product line aesthetic, the new, ergonomic latch design that became popular was my functional contribution.
