No Exit.

The telephone booth in this photograph is located on Main Street just off Hastings Street, the heart of Vancouver's infamous Downtown East Side, the poorest postal code in Canada.

In this image, I draw on two important concepts - the symbolism of The Matrix movie series, where the only exit from the computer-controlled dreamland called the Matrix is through a working telephone, and the sometimes overlooked importance of the ability to communicate as a central means to self-fulfillment - to illustrate how helpless and powerless people can feel trying to escape from the endless cycle of poverty, addiction and homeless that seems to permeate this area.
