The industrial design program at LaGuardia Community College is growing and seeking adjunct industrial design faculty with experience in machine shop practices and modelmaking in wood, plastics and metals. This if for a teaching introduction to workshop class and is based in the workshop at LaGuardia Community College. The individual should have strong traditional design fabrication knowledge and experience using hand tools, power tools and machine tools. Knowledge of material properties, joinery concepts, fastening and adhesives, shop safety and etiquette is required. Familiarity and experience working with design and manufacturing equipment including band saws, table saws, panel saws, lathes, sanders, drill press, planers, C.N.C. routers, vacuum formers, power tools and all associated workshop equipment used for model-making, product prototyping and design development. C.N.C. programming and any C.A.D./C.A.M. experience is highly desirable. Former shop teaching experience is also highly advantageous for this position
High School Diploma with a minimum of four years related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.
- 3-5 years of relevant professional design experience and strong workshop experience.
- Associate or advanced degree in a design or S.T.E.M. field preferred.
- Excellent communication skills.
- A C-14 Laboratory Certificate of Fitness is highly desirable for this position.
Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
