The Industrial Design Department within the College of Design at Iowa State University is accepting applications for a full time, tenured/tenure-track faculty member. Candidates will be considered at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor rank. The successful candidate is expected to make significant contributions to the knowledge base and profile of the program and University through excellence in research and scholarship. The primary areas of teaching may include industrial design studios as well as lecture courses related to commercial practice, systematic methodology, design for manufacture, strategy, innovation, advanced visualization, systems thinking, service design or industry engagement.

Founded in 2010, the Department of Industrial Design has established a strong reputation through collaborative linkages with the Colleges of Engineering and Business and the private sector. Currently the Department consists of 9 FTE faculty members with backgrounds in Art, Architecture, Graphic Design, Digital Media, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Manufacturing and Professional Practice. There are more than 200 students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs.
Other distinguished departments within the College of Design include Architecture, Art and Visual Culture, Community and Regional Planning, Graphic Design, Interior Design, and Landscape Architecture. MID or MFA in industrial design or related field
BID or equivalent professional degree in industrial design or related field + 10 years of relevant industry experience
In addition to the preceding qualification, the candidate must have a documented record of relevant scholarship or other creative work.
In addition to the requirements listed above, for consideration at associate professor, candidates must meet the requirements commensurate for the rank in the College of Design and Department of Industrial Design.
- Evidence or promise of strong focus in the areas of teaching, scholarship and/or practice.
- Ability to managing industry-sponsored academic projects, commercial practice and demonstrated potential to contribute to and thrive in a collaborative academic environment.
