BUSINESS DESIGN DIRECTOR
Our Business Designer Directors combine strategic thinking and human-centered design thinking processes to think differently about existing business models, and to craft and build new ventures. You will collaborate with a broad team of designers and stakeholders to help define strategy and growth opportunities for projects through designing, prototyping and bringing to life new products and services.
As a Business Design Director you will…
+ Help teams explore the business model possibilities behind new concepts using research and financial modeling to shape and influence design.
+ Help teams design business models that enhance and extend consumer experiences, and create new opportunities for revenue across time horizons.
+ Translate business strategy and business models into actionable insights with the project team.
+ Help teams gain a deep understanding of external market context for future businesses or services.
+ Guide teams through the business viability process to help assess investments in new products, services, or ventures.
+ Work across project teams to steward excellent outcome delivery in business design.
+ Collaborate with key project stakeholders to understand their strategic priorities, key challenges and opportunities.
+ Be an ambassador for Ford, building relationships with external business partners in order to test product and service pilots.
+ Support development of strategic priorities and initiatives.
+ Partner with Business Development and Finance regarding invest/buy opportunities.
+ Push and inspire the teams in their use of new methods.
+ Participate in design critiques with teams, providing guidance, coaching and constructive feedback in service of delivering world-class business design.
+ Maintain constant awareness of emerging talent needs in the craft of business design, and work with the talent team to fulfill those needs.
+ Invest in the growth of our team’s business and strategy capabilities by supporting the learning and development of Business Designers and other designers learning more about strategy.
+ Ensure that our business design capability is understood and accessible across Ford.
+ Bachelor’s degree in Business, Strategy, Engineering, the liberal arts, or a related field.
+ 10+ years’ industry experience in areas that include: corporate strategy, enterprise leader in a startup, marketing, product development, business intelligence and analytics, management consulting, ventures, or equivalent.
+ 6+ years’ experience leading highly collaborative teams in Human-Centered Design.
+ Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), Ventures, Corporate Strategy, or equivalent experience.
+ Experience of using human-centered design, design thinking principles or methods in a formal, in-person setting.
+ Experience as an entrepreneur or product owner, specifically in taking offerings to market and scaling.
+ Demonstrable rigor in designing and implementing or re-defining business models, products and services while driving strategic growth.
+ Experience of complex business model development, scenario planning, and forecasting. + Experience of interpreting and translating between research insights, business strategy, and design of products and services.
+ Knowledge of or background in new transportation technologies and services.
+ Experience of designing and/or facilitating group collaboration workshops.
+ Passionate about automotive and mobility industry.

Alongside everyone’s role as a designer of world class design content, you will also be expected to contribute to a range of communities to maintain our creative culture.

These global communities will ensure that we stay connected across the organization, and constantly push the impact of what we do. They can act as additional areas of responsibility, helping to push careers in different directions.
We have four global labs: Palo Alto, Detroit, London and soon, Shanghai.
