As the Director of Advanced Concepts you will lead the research and development activities leading to new and improved technologies necessary to advance the new product development pipeline. You will work directly with senior leaders from Industrial Design, Marketing, Engineering and Consumer Insights to help the organization develop meaningful innovation and grow the business. You will manage a team of highly creative and technical individuals and represent the voice of front end development. This inspiring leader must be able to gather complex inputs and lead a team through the iterative test and learn process to satisfy the business objectives. The perfect candidate for this role is highly driven with demonstrated experience leading a group of technical experts, excels in creative problem solving, and has an endless curiousity for how things work.
Lead a diverse team of highly technical engineers while participating as an expert contributor
Develop innovative solutions and help implement sustainable, robust and reliable design solutions
Provide strategic and technical leadership to team in order to develop new solutions across brands and categories
Develop and manage the technology roadmap and ensure alignment between internal stakeholders
Oversee the exploration and convergence of the project into actionable innovative opportunities and user driven strategies
Foster a creative environment, encourage others to think differently and coach team through problem solving
Coach team to deliver effective communication methods at the key milestones to ensure understanding and alignment
Serve as a technical resource on areas of expertise and provide consultation and mentorship to others
Work closely with cross functional leaders to establish design goals and project scopes
Effectively and efficiently manage multi-disciplined engineering team throughout projects ensuring expectations are clear and delivered on time
Translates business objectives into clear program goals and priorities
Management of complex decisions by utilizing a balance of simulation and physical validation techniques
Provide clear and concise updates to senior management
Stays current and maintains strong knowledge of engineering trends within the discipline
12 + years on a Front End Innovation team with a proven track record of invention in manufactured consumer goods
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering Technology and/or Engineering Physics
Extensive people management experience in engineering for manufactured consumer goods
Strong analytical skills, knowledge and experience in Design of Experiments (DOE)
Proficient in reviewing intellectual property and technical papers
Able to provide sound guidance to the organization on future technical direction
Thrives in the fuzzy front end of development by utilizing the test/iterate process to progress toward effective solutions
Some domestic and international travel is required
10%-20% Travel required.
