Who are we?
Bloomberg is the global leader in business and financial data, news, and insights. Using the power of technology, we connect the world’s decision makers to accurate information on the financial markets and help them make faster, smarter decisions.
What is the challenge?
Finance is changing, and fast; financial professionals are increasingly relying on the power of APIs and creating their own tools. To support this programmatic interaction, we are building a new product to open up our data, analysis tools, and visualizations to data scientists, ML researchers, and other quantitative decision-makers. Our mission: to democratize the industry by providing advanced quantitative tools that are currently only available to large banks and hedge funds, with an emphasis on user experience as the differentiator.
What will you do?
We are looking for an experienced UX Designer with a passion for making complex transactional systems usable and valuable at scale. UX Designers at Bloomberg are excellent analytical and conceptual thinkers that translate user needs, business objectives, and technology capabilities into innovative design. This position requires a strong foundation in user centered design methods and the ability to communicate design decisions effectively to senior stakeholders and colleagues.
What’s in it for you
You will play a pivotal role in all aspects of the product design process: understanding our users’ needs, journey mapping and storyboarding to build consensus around the vision and validating it, and then designing the detailed interaction and measuring its success.
Who will you work with
Your colleagues will be experienced leaders in HCI and UX, a dedicated group of engineers in San Francisco, and Product partners in New York and London. While the larger Bloomberg UX group is largely based out of New York, this team is embedded within our Chief Technology Officer (CTO) group directly, where our most strategic projects are incubated. This ensures that UX is the driver of the product vision and has buy-in from the highest levels of Bloomberg’s leadership.
You’ll need to have
- Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in HCI, Interaction Design, Information Architecture, Visual Communication, or any design-related field.
- 5+ years of experience in several of the following: user research, designing for complex user workflows and decision-support systems, service design, product design, interaction design, UI and visual design, prototyping.
- A track record of applying common User-Centered Design practices and tools to solve tough design problems
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- The ability and desire to understand technology and learn financial concepts
