In collaboration with Marketing, Communication, and Web & Digital Services teams, the UI/UX developer will push the limits of web and mobile technologies to create interactive, engaging, and accessible digital experiences across the entirety of Emerson’s digital landscape, including, but not limited to Emerson’s flagship digital properties: the websites for Emerson College, Emerson Today, Ploughshares, and Expression as well as the College’s mobile app. The UI/UX developer will use research-based design methodologies and data analytics to craft themes, website components, and other digital collateral that reinforce the College’s brand and marketing efforts while simultaneously serving a multitude of audiences. Central to this work is an emphasis on a mobile-first approach and accessibility compliance.
Essential Functions of the Position
Create accessible, semantically correct, mobile-first themes that function properly across all major browsers and devices.
Research and develop derivative/child themes for use across platforms and third-party integrations.
Analyze use patterns and apply best practices to develop information architecture paradigms for use in complex, multi-level sites.
Other Job Responsibilities
Assist the Mobile App Team in developing the Emerson College native app, as well as event/persona based mini-apps.
Develop communication templates that encourage interaction.
Bachelor's degree in UX design, human-computer interaction, computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience
In-depth knowledge of design principles coupled with industry standards and trends in UI/UX design, data visualization, and cross-platform responsive design
Practical, hands-on knowledge of WCAG 2.0 AA accessibility standards and how to build semantic solutions which meet those standards.
Experience working with preprocessors such as less/sass and compilers grunt/gulp as well as Git version control.
Knowledge of open source content management (WordPress and Drupal 8)

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36.25
Hiring Range: $73,550.00 - $77,100.00
This position will be exclusively represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 888 for purposes of wages, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
