Graphic Design Fellow-University of Tennessee Knoxville

University of Tennessee k

Knoxville, TN

Mar 13
Job Description

The College of Architecture and Design invites applications for the 2019 Graphic Design Fellowship. The full time, nine-month position, is to be awarded for two years (based on successful completion of first year) to somebody at, or near, the beginning of a teaching career. Appointed at the rank of Adjunct Assistant Professor, the Fellow will teach three courses a semester in the freshmen and sophomore curriculum, including one Special Topics course of their interest open to all students across the College. The Fellowship recognizes and fosters emerging design educators whose work shows extraordinary promise for the future of the discipline. This position also offers the opportunity to pursue, or continue, a self-driven design research, creative scholarship, or critical project. The two-year Fellow culminates in a lecture/presentation and exhibit of the research within the College of Architecture and Design. The teaching load can be reduced by one course the final semester to allow for the development of the project exhibition and presentation.

Beginning in Fall 2019, the Graphic Design program will move to the College of Architecture and Design’s newly forming School of Design. It will sit alongside the School of Architecture and the School of Interior Architecture, both of whom also have a Fellowship program. The position presents a unique opportunity for candidates who have an interest in pursuing an innovative, cross-disciplinary research agenda, with an emphasis on engaged scholarship. We offer a supportive and collegial atmosphere in which designers make a variety of important contributions to research, teaching, and public engagement. The position begins August 1, 2019 and salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications. This will be a full-time, non-tenure track appointment.
