Industrial Designers at Zebra partners with product development teams across all business units from mobile computer, printer, data capture, Intelligent asset tracking and automation solutions. Designers work directly with product development organizations to deliver Innovative product solutions playing a key role bringing Zebra competitive advantage. The designer will work closely with engineering teams to integrate all aspect of technical performance needs balanced with end-user and customer workflow performance factors into high-volume manufacturing/production. He/she will have an opportunity to work with multiple cross-functions in a fast-paced product development environment and advance the state of art to create best-in-class usability, ergonomics, and product experience.
This position is available in the Holtsville, NY or Missisauga, Canada offices.
-Assess project scope, plan, and execute design activities in alignment with stakeholders and product development objectives
-Collaborate closely engineering and product management teams throughout the development process.
-Responsible for studying and understanding?enterprise?user/customer needs,?envisioning concepts, problem solving, and development of CAD?database?for production
-Visualize, prototype, validate design intent,?and?guide?the development?team on?directions that build?on?user-centered design principles.
-Spearheads the design to production process?making sure that the design vision is carried through
-Effectively lead and manage multiple design programs autonomously within Innovation & design
-Mentor younger design professionals and nurture core design skills and design thinking
-Interpersonal skills should include a broad awareness of corporate business practices and advanced understanding of the Industrial Design profession.
Bachelor's degree required
5 + years of professional of experience
Portfolio of shipped products that demonstrate technical understanding of how it is produced, aesthetics, and form development
Experience in a collaborative team and working directly with engineers for design implementation
Demonstrates innovation in approach to material, surface, and finish
Proficiency with concepts like design system architecture, optimization, and decision making
Ability to drive the design development process independently
Good problem solving skills and ability to think strategically and agilely
Good knowledge of usability and ergonomics
Minimum 3 years of experience working in the smartphone (preferred) and consumer electronics industry
Rendering skills and proficiency in CAD software like Alias (preferred), Rhino, Keyshot, Sketchbook Pro & Adobe Creative.
