We are looking for an exceptional Industrial Designer that shares our passion for design, gear, and outdoor sports. We are expanding a world class footwear team with a Junior to Mid-Level Footwear Industrial Design position. The Industrial Designer works in tight coordination with a multi-disciplinary team in all aspects of design for each product they are assigned to. The Designer will work with the footwear team to define and confirm the last design, upper patterning, functional design, key performance features, material selection and all aesthetic considerations.
The Footwear Designer also needs to travel frequently to work directly with factories in different parts of the world (currently on hold, but will resume in the future) and needs to be comfortable in a collaborative manufacturing environment.
Generate concepts through brainstorming and other creative processes.
Create sketches, renderings, models, mock ups, prototypes or other representations of the design.
Generate appropriate color options, product graphics, logos, and other markings.
Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes.
Work closely with the Product Developer and vendor to create samples through an iterative process aimed at performance, good design, and quality.
Follow and adhere to the timeline requirements of the assigned project.
Present project status in regular design reviews.
Process design change orders in a timely and accurate manner.
Research new materials and technologies for potential use in footwear.
Travel domestically and internationally to conduct research, work with vendors, attend trade shows and other job-related functions.
Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design (or other closely related field) or other design experience.
Required: Internship or post-graduation experience.
Preferred: 2 years post-graduation experience.
Skills and General Experience:
Must demonstrate a track record of creative and compelling designs and a portfolio of relevant projects. Must demonstrate the ability to sketch and create renderings in a way that clearly communicates design intent. Must possess a working knowledge of outdoor sports. In addition, this position requires the ability to conduct research, present project status, communicate clearly, meet deadlines, use word processing, spreadsheets, email and other basic computer skills.
