Position Overview
Our client is seeking an Interaction Design Director (IXDD) who will work closely with the company’s digital software team to innovate and create products for people in a constantly evolving mobility landscape. Grounded in a deep understanding of users’ needs, the IXDD will explore, design, prototype, and launch mobility experiences for systems of physical and digital products, services, and human interactions. They will also be dedicated to growing and mentoring a multi-disciplinary interaction design team, who are masters of their craft.

Your knowledge of the broader China internet ecosystem and understanding of where different types of experiences will reside will enable you to conceive of and design new-to-world interactions within the local/country context. Your expertise will help you determine which experiences our client should own versus those that should be designed to leverage the existing broader connected ecosystem through another service partner, such as a ride hailing company. For example, if our client started making a certain class of vehicles in China and provided them to a ride hailing service, which part of the experience should ‘live’ on their infrastructure and be branded by them, and which part on WeChat or on iOS. You will have a point of view on where the experience should live and for how to architect experiences across all touchpoints, including in-vehicle, in app, in the cloud or on the Apple watch, in way that make them most effective and efficient.

What you’ll do (among other things)
+Help identify opportunities for and bring to life superior mobility experiences with strong groundings in human-centered understanding and with multiple, integrated touchpoints (brand, people, space, products and services)
+Lead the interaction design team and inspire the greater community, stimulating individual growth, defining and evolving craft, and pushing thinking and processes
+Ensure project success by keeping a regular pulse on various project teams; providing feedback, guidance and mentorship; stewarding the delivery of concepts and prototypes of products and services at the right level of fidelity at the right time
+Work with Design Research and Design Strategy teams to synthesize research findings and unearth systems-level patterns, inspiring actionable insights for design solutions
+Attract and develop talent. Maintain awareness of their needs, investing in capabilities and supporting learning and development
+Effectively influence internal stakeholders and external partners
+Proactively add to the development of the Lab’s strategy, culture, internal relationships, and external presence

What you’ll bring?(experience)
Ideally, you have worked across all customer touch points and bring experience designing interactions for both products and services that customers engage with over a complex journey. You understand and think in terms of connecting interaction design with business goals. Ultimately, you want to make an impact on customer/client experience as well as internally; building, leading, inspiring, and shepherding multi-disciplinary interaction design teams, while effectively and cohesively conveying its advantages to stakeholders and clients.

What you’ll need
+ Bachelor’s degree in HCI, Interaction Design, Service Design or related field
+ 10+ years’ interaction design experience across digital media, with wide experience in creating innovative solutions
+ 6+ years’ experience leading highly collaborative design teams in human-centered design
+ Fluency (verbal and written) in Mandarin and English required
+ Experience working in-house at leading corporations/brands and/or with world class consultancies or agencies serving major brands and managing key stakeholders in China and the US

Additional Preferred
+ Master’s degree in Interaction Design, Service Design, HCI or related field
+ Experience designing and/or facilitating group collaboration workshops
+ Experience utilizing design thinking and/or HCD in a formal, in-person setting
+ Experience working on a breadth of products and digital services
+ Experience of working with startups or venture incubation
+ Ability to communicate the value of interaction design within a design and business context and identify the critical design trade-offs to deliver value-add solutions
+ Passionate about automotive and mobility industry
+ Strong verbal, written and visual presentation skills

Work Authorization
Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work in China on a permanent basis. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
