Lead the User-Centered Design Research efforts for the Home & Garden business to design offerings and claims for our pest and weed control consumer portfolio. Provide leadership in developing new methods and approaches, championing Design Research and Design Thinking. Work on new products or improve existing ones, and use understanding of technology, materials and manufacturing methods to improve the design and usability of an item.
Responsible for leveraging macro / micro / market / consumer research and trends to create product designs and concepts, develop 3D models and validate product performance. The designs are thoughtfully developed for manufacturability through to consumer performance and enjoyment and reinforce our brand equities. Work closely with the cross functional teams including R&D, Marketing and Manufacturing.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design and conduct multi-faceted research plans to learn about all aspects of the consumer experience in our market categories. These plans typically include qualitative discovery
research, primary and secondary research exercises to understand the competitive product set, and evaluation of mock-ups and preliminary concept prototypes in field.
Analyze and synthesize research findings into key insights that inform opportunities for new feature sets, functionalities that can be leveraged into new claims and business approaches.
Plan and facilitate hands-on tool evaluations, team workshops, and analysis sessions. These participatory co-creation sessions result in a common ground of familiarity with a product and its use, while inspiring creativity and collaboration within your team.
Present research findings in an engaging and concise manner to key stakeholders across the business. You will need to communicate through well-crafted presentations and events that educate and inspire your team through photos, video, diagrams, storytelling and demonstrations.
Experiment with new approaches and methodologies to encourage new ways of thinking.
Champion the importance of User-Centered Design and Design Thinking throughout the company.
Create compelling new products that will delight consumers and drive profitable sales.
Establish design briefs of meaningfully differentiated products.
Sketch concepts or leverage software to bring ideas to life, including parts lists and costing.
Identify materials for product and formalize product & packaging specifications for manufacturability.
Research materials, processes and market requirements and discuss and appropriate production processes, costs and commercial issues.
Work closely with legal, regulatory teams to ensure compliance and safety is met.
Develop 3D models for testing and evaluation.
Evaluate samples and adjust product and packaging specification forms.
Deliver marketplace intelligence; monitoring competitive products and identifying trends and market opportunities to develop portfolio.
Develop key supplier relationships to help accelerate the development cycle and create efficiencies.
Comply with all company policies and procedures.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE PROFILE:
Bachelor’s Degree in industrial design or a closely related field. Master's degree preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in design for the Consumer Packaged Goods Industry
Demonstrated proficiency in Design Methods.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
Experience with design for pesticides, herbicides, household chemicals, and/or other regulated consumer packaged goods preferred.
Experience on an innovation team or in an entrepreneurial environment preferred.
Works effectively across the organization and fosters teamwork.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Project management experience and use of project management software.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, both oral and written, are fundamental.
Ability to organize and carry out multiple projects with attention to detail.
Computer literate and experienced with Microsoft Office Suite Programs and Product Management systems experience (i.e. SAP Product Lifecycle Management).
Proficient in: Adobe Creative Suite, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat Pro, Solidworks, 3D modeling.
Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
Travel up to 10%
