Job Description

This position’s primary objective is to manage the development process and to source quality driven raw materials, product color ways & graphic prints for a nationally recognized sporting goods bag & accessory company, from concept through production hand-off, in accordance with company testing standards, while meeting costing targets, minimums, and exceeding customer expectations.
Working office can be remote but must live within easy travel distance to TORG Asia or US offices.


• Researching market and product categories to maintain knowledge of trends in retail and brand positioning. (Attend trade shows, do store walks, seek out trend reports/workshops, and international markets.) Domestic and overseas travel as needed
• Create color, and product print graphic reports for various categories based on
research and product criteria.
• Works in conjunction with the Chief Design Officer, Product Design Director and Design Team to ensure that all design requirements are met.
• Supports TORG US and Asia teams with overseas factories to make sure all color specs are met.
• Supports Project Manager with sending all color/print specifications packages for overseas sample development & product development team.
• Supports Graphic Designers with seamless repeat prints and sets up files for factory printing
• Supports Graphic Designer with screen print graphic and embroidery graphic artwork for products
• Follows process from initial color selection to sample creation, to production lab dip approval
• Manages Pantone and CSI color library, both physical samples and digital files
• Utilize lab dip approval system working directly with Tech Team to assure accuracy of requested color
• Understand and utilize the light box to assure color accuracy, and consistency
• Participate in product meetings to coordinate actions and mitigate project risks with other team members and brand or retail partners as needed
• Develop to market fabrications to meet target product cost and expected performance for TORG and retail brand partner
• Continually support material innovation by providing technical direction for construction, technologies, applications, processing, dyeing, printing, and finishing techniques
• Work with Tech Dept to commercialize materials in accordance with established standards and requirements through factory and field testing, along with applicable government regulations (NFPA, ANSI, EN standards, country specific regulations, etc.)
• Maintain accurate record keeping and tracking of fabric development in data base and established trackers, as well as for ISO compliance and reference.
• Maintain library and data base of fabrics to market customers
• Collaborate with China and SE Asia Sourcing Teams and suppliers throughout commercialization to manage fabric and hardlines materials deadlines on multiple project timelines
• Educate cross functional teams with technical information related to fabrics, technologies, hardlines materials and related applications regularly for all NEW development opportunities


• Bachelor’s Degree in Design, and Materials, especially fabric and color development experience preferred
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in Bag Design, Backpack Product Development, or fabric development role (s) with strong understanding of fabric production
• Ability to see color discrepancies, and able to achieve high color discrimination rating on standardized test
• Knowledge of industry’s fabric and color testing standards
• Experience with dyes and dyeing techniques for varied fiber contents, structures, and their influence on color appearance
• Good understanding of fabric coatings and reasons for end use consumer
• Experience working with hardlines materials, such as zipper/pullers/zipper chain, plastics and composite materials, is a plus
• Technical brand experience, along with good understanding of high testing standards knowledge is a plus
• Robust understanding of 3-dimensional design & visualization a plus
• Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop preferred
• Microsoft Office primarily Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
• SolidWorks, Rhino or CLO 3D, CAD Modeling Experience a plus
• Excellent computer skills (MAC or PC)
