CBS designs and manufactures custom cases and specialty packaging solutions to enhance our customers’ brand. The Product Engineer will ensure all project development is in-line with our company’s and customers’ goals and values. Alongside the Product Designers, they will be responsible for assisting with concept development to bring our customer’s visions to life, while keeping in-line with all project and branding requirements. They will communicate with and assist vendors to ensure manufacturing is true to the project’s developed concept. They will create detailed drawing documentation for each project and assist Product Designers in developing and revising 3D CAD models. They will perform drawing reviews and ECO/revision management. They will perform part analysis and simulation, when required. They will perform inspections of FA sample and production parts to verify they match the engineering documentation. They will create toolpathing files for in-house router production. They will manage their queue of assigned projects. They will assist the Product Designers and the Design & Engineering Manager and with daily tasks related to customers, vendors, internal operations, etc. They will keep the Product Designers and the Design & Engineering Manager abreast of all statuses and issues.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design & Engineering Department Operations Responsibilities
• Build, develop, and revise solid models
• Design with accordance to necessary function, material requirements, and manufacturing requirements
• Create and revise CAD drawing documentation
• Communicate with and assist external engineering resources to facilitate documentation creation
• Detailed design documentation
• Scaled dimensional drawings
• Materials
• Tolerances
• Assembly instructions
• Special instructions and manufacturing notes
• Part # management
• BOM management
• Create all logo artwork files for production
• Vector artwork file layouts for vendors
• Customer Approvals
• Production drawing documentation
• Deliver required files to all parties within agreed upon timelines
• Organize and properly manage assigned project queue and responsibilities
• Organize all production files and project information in accordance with department filing procedure
• ECO/Revision management
• Receive and review ECO/Revision from customer
• Determine manufacturability
• Determine usability
• Determine durability
• Update solid models in accordance to ECO/Revision
• Update design documentation
• Properly record and catalog revision history
• Create toolpathing files for router production
• Create toolpathing files using Enroute software
• Interpret intended design for best manufacturing efficiencies
• Communicate to Product Designers any necessary design changes needed
• Output files to router for production
• Keep Product Designers abreast of all statuses and issues, while assisting the Product Designers whenever necessary
• Keep D&E Manager abreast of all statuses and issues, while assisting D&E Manager whenever necessary
• Other duties, as assigned

Product Designer Facing Responsibilities
• Review capabilities and limitations of materials and manufacturing processes regarding the design
• Communicate manufacturing issues to determine proper resolution(s)
• Communicate estimated timeline to release documentation for production
• Confirm when all project materials have been released for production
Customer Facing Responsibilities
• Measuring customer parts and recording project information
• Travel to customers to perform tasks as needed
• Attend customer calls and meetings to understand the technical requirements of customer project

Vendor Facing Responsibilities
• Communicate and agree upon project materials, assembly instructions and project requirements
• Provide necessary drawings, files, logos in their required formats
• Communicate and develop samples that are properly reflective of final production
• Inspect incoming samples and production pieces, if needed — communicate and resolve any issues
• Hold accountable in respects to project requirements and delivery times
• Maintain and improve vendor relationships

Sales Facing Responsibilities
• Communicate expected drawing released dates and statuses of project deliverables
• Deliver artwork approvals for customer review and approval
• Deliver production files for cataloging and delivery to customer (when applicable)

Customer Success Facing Responsibilities
• Release all project production files
• Confirm receipt of production files
• Confirm dates of next steps
• Assist with holding accountable to targeted dates
• Assist with vendor communication from design to delivery

Manufacturing Facing Responsibilities
• Main point of contact between Design & Engineering and Manufacturing Departments
• Communicate and agree upon project materials, assembly instructions and project requirements
• Provide necessary drawings, files, logos in their required formats
• Communicate and develop samples that are properly reflective of final production

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
• Positive attitude and ability to work well with others and alone
• Detail-orientation
• Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with an eye on commitments and deliverables
• Demonstrated strong organizational, relationship management and conflict management skills
• Equally proficient at collaborating in a team-oriented environment, as well as alone
• Strong decision-making abilities and strong self-confidence with their design skills
• Strong computer skills: SolidWorks, or comparable CAD software

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to sit at a desk for long periods.
• Heavy computer use/typing/data entry
• Moderate phone use
• Ambulatory/mobile within office environment
• Lifting and carrying cases of various sizes both large and small

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
• BS in Mechanical Engineering, or accredited Drafting Degree, or accredited Computer Aided Drafting Degree
• 3 years professional experience with an established company
