The Product Engineer will work closely with designers, factories, and engineering teams to flesh out mechanisms and designs for manufacture (DFM). The engineer will work on the development for a wide variety of categories such as home gear, feeding products, accessories, and toys.
Create manufacture-ready 3D CAD files and specifications.
Use Solidworks to produce detailed bills of materials, mechanical simulations, and moldable plastic part and assembly files.
Communicate daily with factories and/or overseas office to create proof-of-concept prototypes, optimize tooling and identify key cost savings.
Use project management software, CAD files, and PowerPoint documents to discuss development issues.
Sketch and collaborate with the product design team to create solutions for variety of simple to complex problems.
Review design and engineering with compliance, design, and management.
Use the Design Failure Mode Effect Analysis (DFMEA) to help identify and mitigate risk.
Plan product testing and trouble shoot existing products.
SUPERVISORY/BUDGETARY/EXTERNAL COMMUNICATION RESPONSIBILITY:
This role reports into the design director.
Communicate with factories and/or model-makers to develop innovative products.
Advanced SolidWorks skills (certification preferred)
Ability to communicate ideas through sketching and CAD presentations
Proficiency in Adobe CS and Microsoft Office
Clean, modern aesthetic, and a love of function
Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
International travel 2-3 times/year required
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Design
Experience designing for injection-molding and general DFM
5+ years design experience (toy and children’s product background preferred)
Experience working with overseas factories is preferred
