Teaching Opportunity at Kansas State University for a Professional Industrial Designer
The Department of Interior Architecture and Industrial Design (IAID) invites applications for a Professor of Practice in Industrial Design beginning August 2024. We are searching for an industrial designer with creative energy, passion, and the ability to integrate contemporary professional methods and processes into design studio teaching. If you are a working professional that is interested in transitioning from a professional studio environment to the classroom, we want you to join our department at Kansas State University in Manhattan Kansas. Even if you have never taught before, we are interested in hearing from you. Our dedicated industrial design faculty members will support you in becoming a valuable resource to our program and students. There is some flexibility in teaching responsibilities, but candidates should have the ability to teach two or more of the following areas in the industrial design program: ID Studio Coursework (various levels), Contemporary Professional Practice, 3D Modeling and Rendering, and/or Internship Coordination.
Preferred Qualifications
-Ten or more years of Industrial Design experience
-A diverse portfolio of design work in a variety of industries
-Experience mentoring, hiring, and/or supervising designers
-Record of service to the design community
-Previous experience teaching design in higher education
Minimum Qualifications
-Bachelor’s degree Industrial Design
-At least six years of Industrial Design experience
-A portfolio of industrial design work
-Ability to develop and teach lectures and seminars related to professional practice in ID
-Ability to teach undergraduate design studios
-Ability to teach industry standard 3D modeling and rendering
-Ability to teach design thinking at multiple scales and complexities
-Ability to coordinate student internships
