This position could start in our New York office and transition to the Bay Area over 12 months – for the right candidate.
We are looking for industrial designers who also have interior architecture experience and want to work at the intersection of those two design disciplines. This is a chance to join a diverse team that is working together to build a distinctive American design company.
Henrybuilt senior designers provide a specialized design expertise for projects across the country, working alongside leading architects, designers, and builders to create exceptional spaces and experiences for our clients and their families.
The design work is broad, from concept and approach for all areas of a new home, to developing material palettes and ensuring all elements are impeccably detailed and integrated into the architectural context - and it all gets built, nothing dies on paper. Our designers work closely with clients, creating results that have a direct effect on the lives of the people we work with. And you will be involved in the business, helping to improve the product, and the way we work.
These are the requirements:
• Ability to sense and relate to where the client is coming from, and to understand and manage the variation in perspectives of a client group.
• Ability to transform what you sense from a client and see in the possibilities of a space into a unique and exceptional outcome with a substantial amount of the work done in real time with the client.
• Ability to think on your feet, pick up things quickly, and move through complex work in a way that feels lightweight and enjoyable to the client group.
• 3+ years’ experience in an architectural design role. We are looking for people who have been through lots of design cycles, from concept to completion – more so than those who have worked on one or two very long projects.
• Proficiency with AutoCad and other design tools
• Bachelor's degree in architecture, interior design or industrial design

We founded Henrybuilt in 2001 to challenge the standard for what it means to live well in a home. We’ve developed a family of inter-related, highly refined products that our design team carefully tailors to how people live. Our systems, together with our design service, combine hand crafted beauty with years of focused innovation – resulting in an industrially engineered product that is adaptable to a range of tastes and reflects and adds to the architectural quality of a space.

To learn more about being part of Henrybuilt is like, read a personal note from Julianna Morais, Henrybuilt's VP of Design:
After receiving my M.Arch. from Georgia Tech, I started my career at Morphosis and then moved on to Frank Gehry’s office in Los Angeles. I spent 10 years at these great firms working on exciting projects, but I did very little actual design. Though I was successful and grew into leadership positions, much of my work involved
executing the details and carrying out others’ design decisions.
I joined Henrybuilt in 2007 as a Senior Designer. Despite more than a decade in the field, I had almost no experience dealing directly with clients, and I did not know much about system design. At the time, Henrybuilt was young as a company, so I was unsure how much design I would end up doing – or the breadth of experience I would get. After meeting the key people and visiting the Seattle workshop I was so impressed that I knew I needed to join this group – without really knowing what I was getting into.
My time at Henrybuilt has been incredibly expansive. In the 11 years since joining the company, I have been through hundreds of design cycles on a vast range of projects. I realized that going through that cycle over and over is how one truly learns. I’ve met – and continue to meet – amazing clients. I’ve worked on projects in so many different settings – coast to coast, Mexico City to Telluride, and everywhere in between. The work I’ve done with my team directly affects the lives of our clients. The result has been enormously gratifying.
I’ve learned how a team works together to design and build a company. I’ve also participated in one of the most interesting areas of thought in design: system thinking. I’ve contributed to growing a company that is at the intersection of system design and handcrafted manufacturing. Every client project is unique. Our design practice
is rooted in how clients want to feel while living in the spaces we help create.
Design at Henrybuilt is about creating interior architecture that is truly exceptional – with a team and company culture that are also exceptional. Henrybuilt continues to grow, which will bring new opportunities to those on the design team. This company is going places.
If this story strikes a chord for you, you have significant architectural experience, and you are interested in having an experience like mine, I would like to hear from you.
Vice President of Design, Henrybuilt
