About the Role:
The Senior Communications Designer is responsible for developing innovative communications solutions that are on brand and work seamlessly with the project’s exhibition environments design under the direction of the Creative Director and CMO. Communications include project branding, environmental graphics, signage and wayfinding, marketing materials, and media content.

Collaborates with the Environments Design Team, Marketing, and the Digital Experience Team to create smart integrated thinking around communications solutions.

Can provide relevant research and understanding of industry trends. Ability to integrate brand messaging, color, imagery, type, composition, and other design elements into deliverables. Has a strong understanding of printing, graphics and signage fabrication, substrates, and materials. Strong understanding of UI/UX design for digital media touchpoints within the built environment. A talent for concepting and art directing animation and motion graphics. Storyboarding and 2D and/or 3D animation skills are a plus. Knowledge of the animation and video production process and can assist in casting, scriptwriting, production, and editing.

Responsibilities:
• Develop innovative exhibition graphic and communications design solutions which meet the strategic, experiential, functional, and budgetary scope for each project
• Participate in all phases and aspects of a project, including research and project immersion, strategy, ideation, visitor journey studies, concept design, schematic design, design development, design intent documentation, and fabrication and installation oversight
• Approach a project from a high-level, wholistic perspective while keeping in-budget, detail-oriented solutions and production processes in mind
• Provide high-level strategic thinking around exhibition programming, interpretive planning, and experiential and educational content
• Collaborate with the Marketing team to develop project branding and marketing toolkits for partners and venues
• Collaborate with exhibition environments designers and digital experience designers to craft environmental graphics, signage, wayfinding, and media content
• Communicate key deliverables, including conceptual 2D and 3D graphics, sign location plans, elevations and sections, details, specifications, 2D and 3D visualizations, and other supporting materials
• Create thoughtful, clear, and direct presentation documents that communicate design-thinking for the layperson and include our clients, vendors, and creative partners in the collaborative design process
• Provide art direction for animation, motion graphics, and video content
• Oversee printing and fabrication and partner with the Production and Operations teams to ensure that the creative is delivered on time and to the level of quality expected at Imagine Exhibitions
• Support the Creative Studio, Marketing, and Sales teams with presentation layout for pitch decks, sales decks, and project communication decks

Required Competencies:
• 8+ years experience in graphic design for themed entertainment design, museum exhibition design, branded environments design, interior design, architecture, or other environments-based graphic design
• A passion for experience design
• Connected to the creative industry—strong knowledge of industry trends and innovations in experience design
• Understanding of brand narrative and the ability to work within a brand-centric strategic framework
• Ability to give art direction and feedback to junior designers, consultants, and production/fabrication partners
• Knowledge and skill in graphic design and layout
• Strong conceptual ideation and collaborative brainstorming abilities
• Understanding of the environmental graphic design process and documentation standards from initial concepts through implementation, with the ability to translate design goals into a visual communication solution
• Ability to design within established brand standards or guidelines, if applicable, or to develop custom solutions
• Ability to develop brand identities and marketing toolkits in collaboration with Marketing
• Knowledge of typography and font styles, and a working knowledge of legibility guidelines, standards development, materials, substrates, production and signage fabrication methods
• Ability to read architectural construction documents and shop drawings, and coordinate with engineers for structural, mechanical, electrical or data interface, as may be required
• Expert Adobe Creative Suite skills in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, including photo editing, illustration, graphic design, layout, and preparing production artwork for printing
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills
• Ability to prioritize and concurrently work on multiple projects in a fast-paced studio environment
• Ability to meet deadlines, without compromising accuracy, within the constraints of schedule and budget
• Flexibility to work both collaboratively and independently on projects of all scales

Software:
• Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
• Adobe After Effects + Premiere
• AutoCAD or CADTools for Illustrator a plus
• SketchUp a plus
• Additional 2D and 3D animation software
