Job Description

We are a creative design firm looking for a senior or mid-career Industrial Designer to help us create medical devices and other high technology systems that make the world a better place. Check out this leadership opportunity for a senior or mid-career Industrial Designer who wants to grow and take on more responsibility. This is a position in a company with a track record of growth; 20% year over year for ten years. The KC-based senior position has a direct growth path to group leadership, design director and beyond.

The Industrial Designer is a key team member who excels at designing physical systems that include electro-mechanical physical elements and embedded software. They apply human factors principles, and systematic field study techniques that yield actionable data and observations. This hands-on designer is an empathetic observer of people, workflows and technology. An insightful learner with natural curiosity, they have an uncanny ability to synthesize solutions that delight!

This self-directed leader is a hands-on designer who mentors other designers. This creative professional is an advocate for good design who translates design language for clients and coworkers.

Possibly quirky and intense at times, the Industrial Designer has their finger on the pulse of design; easily articulating fads, trends and design history in ways that impact product design. Our Industrial Designers work closely with a diversity of users, Engenious customers, mechanical engineers, prototype model makers and technicians.

WITH US, YOU WILL:

Apply a keen eye for design essentials: form, color, scale, and design trends
Be a prolific designer who can quickly create multiple concepts based on project requirements
Offer unique solutions which meet product strategy while branching into new ideas and concepts; not delivering the same solutions over and over
Collaborate with teams and clients, ensuring open lines of communication, integrating feedback in a positive way
Plan and execute human factors studies, including in-person field work that represents Engenious well
Be an empathetic advocate for a diverse array of people – wide age range and every conceivable life situation (we all need healthcare)
Extract insights and synthesize solutions that win over clients, then test and refine with a sense of humility
Develop concepts with beautiful sketches created in a flash
Seamlessly wield digital tools such as the Adobe suite and 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks
Learn about the medical device industry, or put your existing expertise to great use
Work in a collaborative team of engineers, technicians, model maker and others

WE HAVE:

A well-equipped prototype model shop at your disposal with great equipment and tools including four 3D printers, a 4-axis CNC, casting and painting equipment, and an ever-growing array of fabrication tools
A variety of clients, technologies, and products — our work never gets dull
An infectious sense of urgency and important work to do
Excellent full-time benefits that include health/life/dental/vision insurance, retirement profit sharing, and an exceptional PTO program.

This leadership position is based in our Kansas City design center, and is not available as a remote job.

We recognize that top talent comes from all over the world, however, Engenious Design is unable to offer visa sponsorship opportunities at this time; candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
