Essential Job Duties:
-Lead product designers and work as an individual contributor to design new soft goods and hard goods products. Responsible for assuming ownership of projects, working without close supervision, and balancing multiple concurrent projects.
-Create (design, sketch and prototype – including sewing) new product concepts across a variety of baby categories to meet identified consumer needs as well as our product roadmap goals.
-Monitor and document color, material, finish and category trends as well as consumer use or behavior insights as they relate to design and have a passion for creating beautiful and meaningful product experiences.
-Lead Design Process from concepts, prototypes, to final design intent specifications.
-Work with tech designers, production partners and factories to ensure prototypes can be translated into high-quality and manufacturable products. The final product should deliver on our brand promise of making great product.
-Own, manage, and take responsibility for all assigned projects and their timelines which have been developed with both speed and quality in mind
-Work with outside design resources (including outside designers and regulatory consultants as required).
-Work with the Compliance team to ensure that products meet all relevant and specified current domestic and international standards throughout the development process.
-Work closely with internal teams and contract manufacturers to ensure products that meet design specifications, cost targets, scheduled time of delivery and design for manufacturing and assemble guidelines (DFMA) - using Teamwork and the company’s Phase System to bring products from initial concept to mass production.
-Continuously communicate with our CMs to keep their resources focused on our projects and our schedules. Resolve communication blocks and technical obstacles to keep projects on brief/spec and on schedule. Make hard calls on pricing, schedule, features as needed to move products toward the market-place.
-Regularly report project progress to internal teams.
Supervisory Responsibility: Two (2) direct reports (Product Designers)
-Up to 15% travel including international travel up to twice per year.
-For manufacturing support and product development purposes, your job could involve travel of up to four weeks two times per year, depending on the density of activities for that time period.
-These trips will involve international travel. For this purpose, you will need to hold a valid passport and obtain the necessary visas to allow travel on your passport to Vietnam, India, China, Poland and Germany.
-For your trips, and for product design reasons, you will need to be able to stand for up to 8 hours a day on your feet, work occasional weekends, and travel by plane.
Education and Experience:
-At least a Bachelor degree in Product Design or Industrial Design (or closely related field of design study) from an accredited university
-Minimum of 5-8 years in soft structured goods design, such as back packs, carriers, seats, or footwear preferred
-Proficiency in Optitex, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Solidworks and Acrobat
-MS Office Word, PowerPoint and Excel
