We are seeking an adept and innovative Design Systems Lead (Manager) to establish a design systems practice powering Sallie Mae’s Digital Experiences and business channels, serving ~10 million active customers through SallieMae.com, multiple customer-facing applications, products, and tools; as well as multi-channel customer-service experiences, business partner and operational portals, and native mobile apps.
The UX Lead will make design systems a broadly valued reality, directly moving first iterations of design systems from vision and strategy through delivery; rallying, coordinating, and participating in working teams of UX & UI Designers and Developers in establishing component libraries, design patterns, visual languages, and UX frameworks.
The Design Systems Lead will partner closely with Digital Experiences Group leadership, as well as peer product management, development, business, and creative leads to set goals for, plan, and motivate the creation and adoption of a coherent suite of design systems and practices recognized as indispensable infrastructure for Sallie Mae experiences.
UX Leads are veterans of the full product / service lifecycle, adept at rallying and steering multi-disciplinary teams in taking on complex customer / business / technology challenges from a human-centered perspective; mentoring and guiding teams; applying deep craft expertise through deft practice; realizing transformative customer experiences; and contributing independent strategic voice and impact.

This role can be performed in a hybrid location capacity, meaning a mix of in person and remote work arrangements
