Hom Community Hospital

Hom Community Hospital was a graduate design studio project in Fall 2012. It is located in Roswell, GA. The banding concept on which the hospital is based on the total health cycle of prevention, intervention and recovery. The site was chosen specifically because it’s surrounding areas which suited our needs of making the hospital to be part of the community. The hospital is located centrally in a triangle of civic, business and residential areas. Norcross Street provided a main road to access the site and allowed us utilize the side streets to provide distinct entrances for patients, service and ambulance drop-off. The topography of the site provided us with a couple of advantages in our design. A sizable portion of the hospital is below grade to maintain the image of a community hospital. By staying below grade, the hospital seems less imposing to the surrounding community. The majority of the parking is underground to allow patients and visitors comforting views of nature.
