2011 - RISD Studio
My tableware is all slip-cast and made from both stoneware and porcelain. I made all original positives, created plaster molds, and added detailed relief carvings.
The pouring vessels were my main focus during this studio. My positive was made from hand-built clay. The final form required a three part plaster mold. After the mold was dry, I casted several forms, then carved a texture into the mold and casted several more. I also made test tiles to see how different glazes would react to the texture. My final design for the pouring vessel is playful, yet functional and comfortable in the hand.
My second project is an 8 piece serving set for appetizers. Two different bowl shapes repeat to make a form inspired by geometric diamond cuts. Different colors can be mixed and matched to create a set.
Finally, I made a flower pot while experimenting with organic carving. It was cast as an oval, then hand-formed to achieve its unique shape that fits nicely on a window ledge.
