Wishbone Recycled bike

Wishbone Design Studio engaged me to help refresh their best-selling wooden balance bike with a sustainability-focused update. The challenge was to incorporate recycled post-consumer plastics into the frame while preserving the iconic Wishbone aesthetic. The updated bike needed to grow with the child—offering long-term use and greater convenience for parents—without compromising on form or function.

As a contract industrial designer, I led early concept development and prototyping. This included sketch work, CAD, and hands-on testing. A key innovation was replacing the previous flip-frame resizing method with a center pivot system that adjusted both the frame length and seat height via a single fastener—no part removal required. The result was an intuitive, adaptable product that’s gone on to win multiple awards and achieve strong global sales.
