David "HABBENINK" Habben is an artist and illustrator based in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. His work can be found in children's books, interactive campaigns, apparel, and galleries throughout the world. David received his BFA from Brigham Young University in 2006 and was a Children's Book Design Fellow at Chronicle Books in 2008. In 2017, David received his MFA in Studio Art with a Graphic Design emphasis from The University of Utah. He is now an Assistant Professor of Illustration at Brigham Young University.
David's work is often a study in contrasts, combining fine line work and emotional themes with bright graphic colors. The content varies from stream of conscious drawings to more elaborate and intricate mixed media work. His focus is always to engage the viewer in a personal way that will stay with them after they’ve left the gallery. Ideally, the visuals presented will cause conversation and introspection that will reach beyond the more formal elements of the work.
