The Department of Sustainable Product Design and Architecture (SPDA) at Keene State College is seeking qualified applicants for a one-year contract lecturer position to begin August 2018, with expertise in Product Design and Development/Manufacturing engineering and an orientation towards sustainability principles in our multi-disciplinary, Sustainable Product Design and Innovation (SPDI) program.
Primary teaching responsibilities in the classroom and advanced manufacturing lab include the following areas: product design and development; visualization techniques from basic sketching and drafting to professional 2-D and 3-D computer modeling techniques, including SolidWorks and rendering software; use and properties of materials, applications and processes used in manufacturing; design detailing, model-making techniques, and production phase-in incorporating prototyping and methodologies in our advanced manufacturing labs. Rapid prototyping and 3D scanning technologies is a plus.
The department is committed to integrating sustainability issues into all their courses, encouraging the development of a student design community, and collaborating with fellow SPDA and College faculty and staff, with related academic disciplines and the regional manufacturing community. Additional responsibilities, as departmental service, may include student advisement and mentoring, curriculum development, participating in program assessment and enhancement, integrating laboratory learning opportunities, integrating safe operations, working with an active student organization and business advisory committee. Interdisciplinary approaches and engaging undergraduates in the product design and innovation process is core to the SPDI program.
Our students come from diverse socioeconomic and educational backgrounds, with a high percentage of first generation college students. By the time Keene State College students complete their undergraduate experience they develop skills in critical thinking, creative inquiry, intercultural competence, civic engagement, and commitment to well-being that will serve them as active citizens and lifelong learners. We strongly encourage individuals to apply who will support the College’s ongoing efforts to help students become responsible global citizens.
The SPDI program and its advanced manufacturing labs were created for ideation, digital fabrication, prototyping and manufacturing and are housed in a LEED platinum certified TDS Center, an educational facility designed to support our experiential-learning pedagogy. The labs have professional-level computer systems and an extensive array of both classic and state-of-the-art prototyping and manufacturing equipment for metals, wood, electronics, polymers and many other materials and processes. The facility supports learning product design and its related fields and provides a welcoming, supportive, ‘maker space’ for SPDI students and faculty and those in affiliated Regional Center for Advanced Manufacturing (RCAM) courses.
