Job Description

Language Dept is a collaborative, multi-disciplinary design and branding studio in NY City. We work to define brands and customer experiences—through both strategy and execution—across all touchpoints, from naming to packaging to interactive platforms. We are a small, agile studio, where everyone on the team has a role in shaping the work, as well as the company. We are seeking a Senior Graphic Designer to expand our team's growing project needs.

CURRENT PROJECTS INCLUDE:
New portfolio site and visual rebrand of Language Dept.
End-to-end customer journey touchpoints for Design Within Reach
Brand development for pivoting a consumer goods brands
Launch of a new tech brand changing the conversation on privacy

REQUIREMENTS & RESPONSIBILITIES
:: Creative Skills and Experience ::
Must have a Bachelors degree in Design or related field
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
At least 3 years professional experience in visual systems across branding, print, and interactive
Demonstrates a mastery of both print and responsive web grids
Works as design lead on small to large projects
Designs with typography that elicits goosebumps
Has an impeccable, nuanced attention to visual detail
Able to translate complex content into elegant solutions

:: Communication and Planning ::
Leads by example in problem solving and initiative, finding opportunities to help other designers grow and learn
Writes creative briefs including participating in project planning and can set timelines and visualize next steps
Writes & shapes client presentations
Represents studio in presenting design to clients
Directs outside vendors
Provides feedback and art direction to teammates
Can balance time on multiple projects and knows when to raise a red flag on time, budget or strategy
Suggests competitions studio should enter and collaborates on submissions
Writes case studies of completed work for studio

:: Technical Expertise ::
Strong proficiency and experience in Adobe Creative Suite (specifically Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) on MAC computers.
Experience with Sketch, Zeplin, Invision; working knowledge of front-end development (CSS and HTML) and experience within a CMS is a plus.
Working knowledge PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Keynote.
Experience in motion and social media publishing a plus.
Comfortable with digital communication tools such as Slack, Dropbox Paper and flexibility in adopting new team tools when needed.
