Founded in 1929 with a historically unprecedented commitment to financial aid, St. Andrew’s is an Episcopal, co-educational, all-boarding high school situated on 2200 acres in Middletown, Delaware. St. Andrew’s School is seeking to fill our Foundations of Art teaching position. This position primarily focuses on providing our new freshmen students with a solid base in the visual arts; a sort of visual literacy that prepares them for higher level courses down the road.
Applicants will be asked to develop semester long curriculum that exposes students to a broad range of mediums, theories, and histories across the visual arts. In many ways, this course should be viewed as a way to introduce young students to basic elements and principles of design, the vocabulary surrounding art, as well as introductory techniques in drawing, photography, and 3D design.
In addition to the foundations course, the ideal candidate will be able to develop and teach beginning and advanced level graphic design courses. These courses should include print and web based design, typography, package design, and publication layout. The graphic design curriculum should ideally expose students to the art and craft of design, and also the methodology of design thinking.
Applicants should be ready and able to participate in the full residential program at the School, including dorm parenting, advising, and weekend work.
Terminal degree in graphic design, visual communications, or related field.
Proficiency and experience with several plastic arts, ranging from drawing, photography, printmaking, and/or painting.
Full knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud applications including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Lightroom.
Working knowledge of major art history and history of design movements, as well as contemporary trends in the world of graphic design.
Current portfolio of design samples, plus student work if available.
