The Department of Art and Art History at the University of Utah invites applications for a full-time teaching position in Graphic Design commencing in Fall 2020.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have an MFA, MGD, MDes or equivalent terminal degree and exhibit a contemporary vision and approach to Graphic Design. Applicants should demonstrate exceptional skills in graphic design with a strong professional record of industry experience. Teaching experience beyond graduate school is preferred. Materials for consideration should include evidence of unique design skills, a broad understanding of the digital tools necessary for visual communication in the 21st century and an ability to translate this in a classroom environment.
With an average of 100 undergraduate students, the Graphic Design program aims to educate and mentor students so that they may be successful in the profession of design. Our process-oriented curriculum engages students in the exploration of visual communication strategies and techniques across a variety of media, and is designed to prepare students to enter the field as nationally competitive creative professionals.
The new faculty member will help to broaden, build and strengthen the diversity of offerings in the BFA program. This position includes teaching both foundational and advanced level Graphic Design courses. This is considered a full-time teaching position. Additional teaching-related duties include building curriculum, reviewing portfolios, and assisting with the continued growth and recruitment in the undergraduate program in Graphic Design. The mission of the department is directed towards a diverse, inclusive, rigorous and responsible environment that reaches across disciplines. Engagement with the Creative Campus Initiative is encouraged, as well as exploring ways to work with faculty and students from other College of Fine Arts departments/schools (Dance, Film & Media Arts, Music, and Theatre).

The portfolio should be in PDF format, and include titles/short descriptions, media, size, and year created.
