Wheaton College invites applicants for an inaugural Professor of Practice in Design for our new interdisciplinary Design Program, starting in the Fall of 2023. We seek an innovative colleague eager to contribute to the future growth and creative evolution of the program. The full-time faculty member will be expected to teach core requirements, including Design Methodologies, and a range of courses in their own area of specialization, incorporating their practice and process into pedagogy. Professor of Practice appointments at Wheaton are renewable positions.

The Design Program at Wheaton supports students interested in creative fields with a balanced curriculum of design theory, practice, and history. Students complete a core of foundational courses; select one of two concentrations in Graphic & Visual Communication or Objects & Spaces; and complete a collaborative senior capstone in design. Students build on their liberal arts education, gaining skills in critical thinking, collaboration, and ethical problem-solving with hands-on studio experiences. An MFA in design, graphic design, visual communication, or closely related field, or equivalent career experience. Relevant college-level teaching experience (or a combination of applicable academic and professional experience). Ideal candidates will exhibit the capacity to advise and teach undergraduate students and will contribute to the workings of the Design Program and the College.

Two years of college-level teaching experience is preferred. The ideal candidate will have expertise in any field of design that may help broaden the department’s existing course offerings.
